Sir,
I have the honour to invite reference to my despatch No.71 dated the 22nd of January, 1938, on the subject of the reimbursement from public funds of the Tung Wah Hospital in respect of expenses incurred in connection with Chinese refugees and to inform you
that I have now received from the Hospital Authorities an audited statement of expenses for the first quarter of 1938 amounting to $13,597.51.

There is no provision in current estimates for
payment of these expenses and in accordance with
Colonial Regulation No.265 I would request your approval, subject to the consent of the Legislature being obtained, of supplementary expenditure of $13,600 under Head 29,
Charitable Services, to meet this account.
3. The question of further provision for the remainder of the year is being examined by the Secretary for Chinese Affairs and the Committee of the Tung Wah Hospital.
